Possessing remarkable gifts, Professor Berkhof was a voracious reader and biblical scholar.

Louis Berkhof's favorite systematic theologians were Abraham Kuyper and Herman Bavinck.

Berkhof studied under Benjamin Warfield and Geerhardus Vos at Princeton Seminary.

Berkhof said that he owed more to Vos than anyone else for his insights into Reformed theology.
